Are Star Wars visions canon? The show’s creator weighs in on the controversy

James Waugh talks about the anime anthology’s canon status.

Now, is Star Wars visions your canon? The anime anthologies broadcast on Disney Plus also touch on all parts of a distant galaxy, and most importantly, it doesn’t quite fit the Skywalker Saga in many ways.

But that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant. At a meeting, James Waugh suggested that Star Wars canon is something you do.

“They are all true stories,” Waugh explained. I think some of them fit our potential timeline more. But I hate to steal people’s opinions about something that matters most to Star Wars themselves.

He continues by saying; Do some of these fit the timeline more than others? Definitely. Aren’t some of them in the timeline we know or in this saga? Yeah, that doesn’t mean you can’t see those people inspire the storytelling we do, right? This is always the case with everything we do with Star Wars.

Waugh added that each of the nine short films in Star Wars: Visions is “at the heart and soul of Star Wars.” In a nutshell: it may be unnecessary to try to connect what went where and what came before, at that moment or after each trilogy. It’s just as important as Star Wars Visions, SkyWalker Saga, or The Clone Wars or whatever comes next.

Star Wars: Visions airs on Disney Plus. For more on what’s next in the series next, check out our list of Star Wars movies, including work by Kevin Feige and Taika Waititi.
