The suspects, whose names are described as Eric Meiggs and Declan Harrington, are targeting managers of crypto currency companies and high-value social media accounts, the ministry said in a statement. The pair allegedly contacted the operators, trying to reach their phone numbers by re-assigning their chosen phone numbers to a SIM card under their control.

The suspects allegedly used the captured devices and accounts to access victims’ crypto wallets and private keys.

The ministry said that Meiggs and Harrington targeted at least 10 people in this way and stole or tried to steal at least $ 500,000 of them.
