Google Presses Microsoft Edge Users to Migrate to Chrome

Google, the owner of Chrome, the world’s most popular web browser, is showering users of the new Edge browser, developed based on Chromium, to switch to Chrome.

After Microsoft released the new Chromium-based Edge browser, browser wars went to another dimension. After Google showed the new Edge as an unsupported browser on sites like Duo, Meet, and YouTube while it was in development, it has now started showing ads to users to switch to their own browser.

It all started with Google putting it to the fore by recommending users to use extensions safely in the Chrome Web Store. The company is now alerted to Edge users to switch to Chrome on websites such as Google Search, News, Docs and Google Translate.

As you can clearly see in the image above, Edge users are repeatedly warned to switch to Chrome when using Google services. In addition to the search page, advertisements are also displayed on News, Docs and Translation websites. There is also a warning that Edge Canary version is an unsupported browser for Google Drive.

Although Google tries to give the message that Edge is not as secure as Chrome, it is debatable whether this is true or not. While Chrome protects its users against Safe and Malware with Safe Browsing feature, Microsoft provides security in its new Edge browser with Microsoft Defender Smart Screen and download protection against potentially unwanted applications.

In recent weeks, Microsoft started showing ads that suggest users switch to Edge in the Start menu of Windows 10, using the operating system trump to spread the new Chromium-based browser Edge to users. Google’s notification to Edge users is a retaliation for Microsoft’s move.
