CD Projekt chairman Adam KiciÅ„ski has announced that they will start developing the new The Witcher game at a not too distant date. KiciÅ„ski stated that he is among the plans for the next game in The Witcher series and that the development process will start “immediately” after the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077’s release date was postponed to September, and CD Projekt Red will begin developing its next The Witcher game from next fall. Apparently, the new Witcher game will not be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, released in 2015, and therefore will not be called The Witcher 4.
Kiciński said that every game planned by the Polish studio will take place in The Witcher or Cyberpunk universe. CD Projekt Red has now commissioned a small team within the studio to develop the new The Witcher game. The two current major teams are focused on the development of Cyberpunk 2077.
No further details are given about the new The Witcher game, but given the timeframe to be developed, it can be said to come for new generation consoles. The Witcher 3 was recently moved to the Nintendo Switch and gained traverse progress.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still one of the most popular RPGs today and continues to rise after Netflix’s The Witcher series. We will wait and see what effect the new The Witcher game will have on both the game and the TV industry.
